JAKE TURNS 3

Jake turned 3 on July 29th.  We had Outback for dinner that night, which is turning into a tradition.  A couple of weeks later, we had a ‘small’ bbq for him with a few of his cousins. He had a blast even though the rain shuffled everyone inside for a few hours. A day later, we got ready for a long drive and took off for Florida.  Our little guy is growing up right before our eyes! He’s quite the conversationalist now. He likes to tell jokes and sing. And we’re so proud that he uses the potty now.  He has quite a few nicknames, but his mom calls him “lover muffin” or “squirrel” and his dad calls him “bubbers” most often.  He’s VERY outgoing and gives all the ladies “flirt” eyes. He is so loving and we just love him to pieces!

GOING A LA NATURAL

Yep.  Feel free to call us hippies.  Especially me.  We are filling up our fridge and cabinets with healthier, ORGANIC groceries these days.  Ever since I picked up one of Kevin Trudeau’s books on Natural Cures, I feel validated about what I’ve felt all along about doctors, drugs & the insane amount of chemicals in everything, everywhere.  I plan on doing more research on all types of holistic healing, including finding a holistic dentist.  Wish us luck!

TRYING OUT THE TANGO...

If anyone knows Eric, they would also know that it would take some SERIOUS bribery to get him to join Argentine Tango lessons.  Well, I must have learned something useful from the government, because I’ve managed to yet again convince him to take lessons with me this Fall.  We were so close to joining last Spring, but we opted for an impromptu trip to Florida instead.  So, this Fall… get out your dancing shoes honey!! Jake’s Auntie Maria in FL has been taking classes for about 7 years.  Maybe if she comes up for Thanksgiving this year, she can motivate us!

THOMAS & THE BILTMORE

After we hit FL this past July, we drove up to Ellijay, GA and then into Dillsboro & Asheville, NC.  Jake got to meet Thomas the Train and take a ride on his coaches, Annie & Clarabel.  (These Smokey Mt Railway ‘coaches’ happen to be the same ones that his parents rode while on their honeymoon in Bryson City four years ago…)  Jake was also a trouper while walking the many, many stairs and hallways of the Biltmore House & its beautiful garden acreage.  And for the record, Jake will be the first to tell you how much he loves staying in hotels. And that’s not a joke!

ERIC DISCOVERS HUNTER MT

Now that we’ve reported on the dance lessons, let’s get back to reality and talk about mountain biking.  Eric recently came across  the Hunter Mountain website and decided to check it out.  It was quite a haul up to the northern Catskills, but I believe he felt it was well worth it.  He’s making it a regular thing on Sundays until the Winter creeps up on us.  Then I guess he’ll have to use those ski lifts for snowboarding.  Until then, he’ll try to get Scott and Justin up there with him for some good biking.  There are a few Summer Festivals left this year, so maybe Jake and I can go and hit the bounce houses while Dad rides!  Can’t wait!

THE COBRA HAS A NEW HOME

It’s time to say good-bye to the Cobra. ~sniff~ ~sniff~.  I think I will miss it more than Eric, because I am sentimental like that.  Though Eric found himself riding it alone on the way to shows while Jake and Mom towed behind in the Mom Mobile, it still

brought us some good family memories at the Chatterbox and various car shows around town.  Eric had wanted a ‘65 AC Cobra since he was little, so to have owned one for the past 2 or 3 years is very fortunate.  But, now it’s time to pass it along for someone else’s enjoyment.  Maybe the next collection piece will be the Duke Boys’ Charger.  That’s my personal fave, and it will fit the whole family.  :)  Although, someone in town already has that beauty...

CELEBRATING OUR 4TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY THIS SEPTEMBER

We celebrate our 4th anniversary this year on September 13th.  Ok. For those of you doing the math, Jake was conceived exactly one month after we got married.  Each year, we  voyage to Ellijay, Georgia to have a special anniversary dinner.  This year we hit Ellijay on our way up from FL in July (just like last year).  So, we’ve managed to keep the tradition even though we’re a little off.  The tradition started when we lived in Plant City and were hit by all those hurricanes in 2004 (when Jake was just an infant).  We sat through Frances first when he was just a few weeks old.  We were so frightened after that, that we high tailed it out of there with the threat of Ivan. Ironically, Ivan missed Plant City altogether and hit Ellijay where we were staying up in the GA mountains!  I was convinced they were chasing us.  We stayed home for Jeanne and that’s the one that put a 100 year oak tree in our house.  Very scary.  So, that’s the short history of how our young tradition began. We love Ellijay and Eric has been biking there for years, so we hope to stick to it for years to come.  Anyone in the mood for a Fall festival would do good to go there and pick some apples & pumpkins.

Oak tree downed by Hurricane Frances in 2004 in what was our front yard. Hurricane Jeanne, and what I believe to be a tornado it spawned, put one twice that thick on our house. After a week of no water or electricity, or a/c on 90 degree nights, baby Jake and I went home to NJ while Eric stayed behind to fix the mess. All water under the bridge now!!
